ETIAS provides increased security to visitors and Schengen residents. Because of ETIAS, all non-EU nationals, not just those who require a visa, will be subjected to security checks before entering Europe.
Peruvian nationals’ application forms will be cross-checked against multiple security databases, including:
- VIS, a compilation of traveler visa data
- SIS, which contains criminal records, missing people, and a registration of stolen assets
- EURODAC, containing mainly fingerprint data
There will also be an ETIAS watchlist. Visa waiver security procedures will help identify potential threats before they reach Europe. Travellers who pose a risk to the security of the Schengen Area will not be granted ETIAS. Applicants with a criminal record for minor offenses may still be eligible for visa-free travel.
It is expected that most ETIAS applications from Peru will be approved quickly. In the rare event that an ETIAS application gets flagged by any of the databases, it will be referred toETIAS authorities for manual processing.
